Tips from grandmas

Here are some tips that I have collected from my two grandmothers!  Because as we all know, grandmas give the best advice!…

Cleaning tips using regular household items:

1.       Rubbing alcohol, which is very reasonably priced and available at drug stores or grocery stores, cleans your chrome faucets to a sparkling shine. It is also an excellent eyeglass cleaner.

2.       Did you know you can remove a wine stain from your clothing by pouring a little white vinegar on a sponge and dabbing the stain?

3.       White vinegar is also good for cleaning your stainless steel appliances.  Just take a soft cloth, pour on a little white vinegar, and wipe down your appliances.  Easy as that, your stainless steel surfaces will look sparkly clean!

4.       Completely line a plastic tub in the sink with aluminum foil.   Fill with water and add water softener tablets.  When the tablets have completely dissolved, dip your tarnished sterling silver pieces in to remove any tarnish.  They will look brand new!

5.       Get a spray mop, fill the container with 2/3 water and 1/3 white vinegar.  Spray and mop surfaces such as laminate, ceramic tile, and linoleum.

6.       Place toothpaste on your brush, dab in baking soda, and brush your teeth.  Will make your teeth feel fresh and clean!

7.       To clean jewelry: take small amount of toothpaste on a brush, wet the brush, scrub the jewelry and rinse off.

Personal care tips:

1.       If you run out of blush and don’t have time to run to the store, just dab a little of your pink or peach lipstick on your cheeks and smooth it in and you’re good to go.

2.       Don’t like your make-up remover?  Here’s an affordable substitute you can try for your eyes: next time you go to take off your eye make-up (mascara, eye liner, eye shadow) use baby oil.  Take a paper towel or rag, pour out some baby oil and (be sure to close your eyes first!) rub the baby oil on your eyes in a circular motion.  Continue until all make-up is removed from your eyelids.
