High standards are a good thing to have in life. They help us to expect the best out of life, ourselves and others. So why is it that many times we lower these standards? Sometimes we may be scared that were asking or expecting too much out of ourselves and other people. Or it could be that we get so consumed by our circumstances that we settle for mediocrity and what may be easier at that moment. One thing is for sure, whatever is helping us to lower these standards needs to be identified and changed! God wants us to be the best that we can be but if we learn to live with low standards we will also have to learn to settle for second best in our lives. How can we learn how to maintain high standards in our life? Here are some steps…
1. 1 – READ – Dig into your Bible and find the promises that God has made to each one of us. By keeping these promises in the forefront of your mind it will be easier to remember the blessed life He wants each of us to have. This will help us to identify the standards that we need to set in our lives and recognize when we are settling for less than God’s best.
2. 2 – Pray – Pray about your life. Are there areas in your life in which you find yourself continually slacking? Do you tend to put things off simply because you “just don’t feel like it”? Are there ways that you could be better to the people in your life? Are there ways that you can help build up others around you? Are you settling in your relationships and most importantly, your relationship with God? Ask for God’s wisdom to show you areas in your life you can change for the better!
3 – Write – I believe it’s a great idea to write down the standards that you feel God has set for your life. This can be about goals you want to achieve, relationships, work, anything that you feel God may be speaking to you about.
4. 4 – Vocalize – Speak the promise of God’s best in your life by speaking positive and uplifting things continually. Speak encouraging words over your life and the lives of others, this can be as simple as reminding yourself “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”.
5. 5 – Repeat – It’s easy to do all of these things to build your faith every now and then but God wants more! He wants us to live and breathe for Him and Him alone and that’s why it’s so important to develop good habits of high standards for our life. Strive to be the best you can be for God, yourself and others in your life!
I encourage you to take these steps to heart and let God do things in your life greater than you could ever imagine!
